Last night me and Boogie teamed up with R Caine from Archangel’s city breaks for our 4th Rockfall event at the custard factory.

Our room also saw The Aut0b0ts vs Screwface, Far Too Loud, and Cut La Roc smash it up to a packed out Medicine Bar. Jibbering hosted the kitchen, which was unfortunately pretty quiet all night, though their music was as excellent as ever. Loafers lounge very kindly came down to host the upstairs of the medicine bar with some beautiful music, and the Tourists who first performed at the second Mr Elephant went down a storm, as did the excellent Khalanghi Belly Dance troupe.

A few months back, my girlfriend Pyn embarked on a mask making course exploring Joseph Campbell’s The Heroes Journey, and it has since developed into a narrative for the forthcoming Project X Presents show, (and now the aforementioned opening set at the next Drop Beats Not Bombs event).

You will have come across the Hero’s Journey if you’ve seen the films“Star Wars” or “The Matrix”. George Lucas was apparently very friendly with Joseph Campbell, and his work on archetypes and the common threads has proved inspiring to a huge portion of the creative population over the last millenium.

Project X Presents is an amazing collective of people, and the next show is already shaping up to be unlike anything i’ve ever dreamed of, and thats before so much of it has even been confirmed. Our debut event seamlessly integrated performance, music, comedy, and visuals, with a host of other elements. Now the creative meetings have started again, i’ll be blogging more about the development of this second event which is to be at the Rainbow Warehouse, as part of Gigbeth on Saturday November 3rd 2007.

I read a book called The Power of Your Subconscious” about 8 years ago after it was recommended to me by my sister. The book basically explored the idea that we all have a subconscious and a conscious, that the subconscious would bring forth what the conscious mind imprinted onto it. Having not really given this a true test i do feel there is a lot of truth in it, and it obviously crosses into a lot of other ideas from positive and negative thinking, to how much our minds actually influence our experience.

Anyway without going on too much, i saw this film last night called “The Secret, which is along very similar lines, albeit a little glossy and americanised. Its well worth watching, as its currently free online via a great website called www.jonhs.net, which collects and directs to any documentaries, films and comedy that are currently online

I’m soo excited to report that Boogie has confirmed that i will be playing the opening set @ Drop Beats Not Bombs on Friday 14th September 2007!

12 years ago, i went through those doors aged 17, dressed in red tartan trousers and a white satin shirt, completely innocent to the ways of the techno culture in all of its hedonistic glory! 8 hours later i was on a podium throwing shapes at a polish girl with glowsticks on the balcony. The morning after i was chatting excitedly to all the residents and colleagues in a nursing home i used to work in (still high from the night before!). One day later i knew exactly what i wanted to do with my life.

12 years later, i am excited to be djing, promoting, and producing electronic music, and while my tastes, skills and directions have evolved with each passing year, the Que Club, like for so many others, was the place where it all began.

On the night I will be creating something very special on a more project x presents style tip, collaberating with Vj Chromatouch, a live drummer, and hopefully some movement/performance with other artists. We will be creating our own audio/visual version of the hero’s journey and i will be debuting some of my own music, with other musicians, though the details are all in the planning stages and dependant on people’s availablity..

Thankfully the doors will be opening an hour before at 8pm, and I’m hoping as many friends can be there for the set (9 - 10.15pm)

There is much work to be done!

Manic Organic is famous for being the best veggie stall at all the best festivals. Thankfully for me they now host their own cafe in poplar road in Kings Heath, and is one of the few eating places i would highly recommend to anybody.

Buttons and the crew have been there for a couple of years trading under the previous name of The Peaceful Mind Cafe. Now they have got a full kitchen setup, they’ve changed the name and sign to their own Manic Organic brand. The service and food is second to none, and the veggie burgers are one of the best i have ever experienced. Well worth a blog, and most definatly worth a visit

..started today. Its a course setup by Tribal run by the aforementioned John Mostyn, and his partners in deliverance Eugene and Jeff (on the tuesday at least). As they are all from a musical background, and because the course is also about developing your own business/enterprise i’m hoping it’ll be a very useful 2 days a week.

Following the 12 weeks i will have obtained a few qualifications, and then be on an 18 week relevant placement which is intended to further my direction. At the very least it will enable me to put on safe free parties, and bigger events, and will look good on funding applications. Fingers crossed and here’s hoping its as inspiring as the online music enterprise course i did last year with Dubber

Tonight after visiting my n.d.f.m friends John Mostyn & Eugene, and then having a very interesting couple of pints with brummy glitchy breaks producer Jade One, i was playing an impromtu gig for a friends 40th birthday.

I really love djing, cus no matter what the setup, or where it is, the responses that it creates are worth any fee. The freedom to create a journey, to inspire movement and celebration, encourage interaction and human response, create atomsphere whatever the crowd or expectation..It really is something that continues to inspire my evolving love for music. That picture isn’t from this party, but its the closest recent one i have to express the feeling.

…performed the 10 minute version of our drop beats set, at the creative festival type thing in a warehouse last night.. Apparently they were amazing, and the whole thing went down really well.

I dont have footage of last night, but i just found some video of our performance from our Peace Not War when we performed at Drop Beats 9. Sound hasnt come out very well, but it captures the energy nicely.
